A realized reality

The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” “Sir,” Gideon replied, “If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Judges 6:12-13
Have you ever felt like Gideon? If God is so big, why can’t I find Him? Sometimes I feel like God is like the mustard bottle buried in the back of the refrigerator. I know He is in there. I just can’t seem to find Him when I need Him.
Nonetheless, we are assured if we seek Him we will find Him.
When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he cried out, “Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”
Like Gideon we meet Him face to face everyday without realizing it. When we do encounter Him we find courage to overcome our doubts and do things we never dreamed we would do.
Next time you step to the refrigerator in search of the mustard, pause for a minute and reflect on your day and just see if just maybe He was there all along in many ways you never realized. It may not have been at a church building or on late night Jesus TV. No, it will likely be in the hug of a child, the sunset after a long day or a bumper sticker on the back of a VW van. It might even be in that old dusty Bible by your coffee table.
He is there. He is looking for you as much as you are looking for Him.
