When a season becomes a lifestyle

Be careful that a season in life doesn’t become a lifestyle.

Hints that a season in life might be becoming a lifestyle comes in phrases like:

When things slow down, I’m going to.

That’s on my to do list.

That’s my plan.

One of these days I’m going to get to that.

It’s just for a little while.

Just one more time.

It’s temporary.

It is what it is.

Just a little longer and I will.

I am almost finished.

It’s going to get better, I promise.

Having served leaders for more than 30 years, more than once I have seen well intended people sacrifice family, friends and their health all in the name of just a little more time at work.

The truth is, you can’t make up for lost time with family and friends. There will always be more work to do. There won’t always be opportunities to be present with the ones you love. Some memories never get made because a season in life becomes a lifestyle.

If we aren’t careful, someday never comes and a season never changes. It becomes our lifestyle.

Decide today to commit to work and life harmony. When you do, the seasons of life are certain to change.
