When worlds collide

Sometimes my worlds collide in the most intriguing ways.

Friends at Hobby Lobby called today asking if a friend of theirs, who was in town, could pay us a visit at Water4. We were happy to welcome Dr. Matthew A. Elliott, president of Oasis International Limited and provide him with a tour.

As a publisher, Oasis International Limited’s goal is to satisfy Africa’s thirst for God’s Word. Dr. Elliot’s father is associated with the Tyndale House Publishing Foundation. Because of his interest in the work of Water4, he had suggested his son, Dr. Elliott, try to come see us while he was in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Elliott and I had never met before but in conversation over lunch we learned that we knew several of the same friends, the least of which was none other than Dr. Tom Oden.

Dr. Oden is an American theologian and religious author with great interest in the role Africa has played in the spreading of the Gospel. I meet with Dr. Oden on a fairly regular basis and have helped him on a a few projects.

Dr. Elliott and I soon discovered that Tom was one of the leaders for the Center for Early African Christianity (CEAC) and the CEAC has played a significant role in helping bring Oasis International Limited’s new work, the Africa Study Bible to light.

I asked Dr. Elliot if he would like to meet Dr. Oden. He was elated by the idea and rare opportunity. I made a quick phone call and the next thing you know, friends were sharing friends in Dr. Oden’s living room!

Wow! What a day. As we drove away from Dr. Oden’s home, Dr. Elliott shared how he couldn’t wait to tell his dad who he had met today.

It sure is fun seeing how God connects his kids and to see what can happen when you share your friends and leave a little margin in your day for the Lord to work in mysterious ways!
