Wisdom and Discretion

“Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion.” Daniel 2:14

Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight.

Discretion is the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information.

What if Daniel had handled the situation with one but not the other?

We may be wise but unless we are discrete in how we use our wisdom we will be ineffective.

We must be discrete in the utilization of wisdom or we will otherwise alienate.

Whereas experience, expertise and competency represent wisdom, the tack and tone in which it is delivered represents discretion.

“To be wise without discretion lacks wisdom.”

1 Corinthians 13 serves as a great guide. Anything we do that lacks love will not be effective.

“Poorly packaged wisdom is the gift that goes unopened.”
